Teleprompter for DSLR and External Cameras: Your iPhone as a Prompter Panel
You want the image quality of a real camera but don’t want to buy a separate prompter screen. SpeakCam’s Prompter mode turns the whole iPhone screen into a prompter panel: no camera, no files, just a script that follows your voice.
How to position it
- Place the phone right under the lens; the current line sits in the upper third of the screen, closest to the camera
- Using a beam-splitter rig? Turn on “Mirror” so the reflected text reads correctly
- Portrait or landscape — rotate the phone or tap “Landscape” to switch manually
Voice-following works the whole time
Prompter mode uses the iPhone microphone only to hear where you are; nothing is recorded or saved. The camera handles picture and sound, and the two never interfere. Recognition runs on-device whenever possible.
Brightness, font size and control
- Screen brightness is adjusted separately to avoid glare when the phone is close to your face
- Font sizes from 24 to 96, or pinch to resize
- Optional 3-2-1 countdown before scrolling starts, so you can walk back to your mark
- Drag up or down to nudge the position at any time
It can float over another device’s camera app too
If you shoot with a second phone or an iPad, the floating prompter can put the script over that device’s recording app instead.
FAQ
Does Prompter mode interfere with the camera’s audio?+
No. It only uses the iPhone’s own microphone for recognition; your camera records with its own mic.
Does it support beam-splitter teleprompter rigs?+
Yes. Turn on “Mirror” and the text is flipped so the reflection reads the right way round.
Do I need an internet connection?+
No. iPhones that support on-device recognition work offline.
